Nukhufest 2026 brings 50 Semi-Finalist projects from 20 countries to an audience-powered competition spanning narrative film, documentary, animation, experimental work, episodic series, music-driven projects, shorts, and features. Audiences watch and vote on Nukhu before the Top 10 Finalists are announced August 29 and programmed throughout Nukhufest at Cinema Village.
This year's lineup includes films previously presented or recognized at festivals including Sundance, Tribeca, SXSW, BlackStar, Sheffield DocFest, Clermont-Ferrand, Palm Springs International ShortFest, HollyShorts, Hamptons International Film Festival, Brooklyn Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival, New York Asian Film Festival, Atlanta Film Festival, and Telluride MountainFilm, among others.
The slate features artists and performers including Finn Wittrock, Margaret Cho, Roger Guenveur Smith, and Klara Söderberg, alongside emerging filmmakers and independent voices from around the world. Stories move across immigration, family, disability, Black identity, queer experience, environmental change, Afrofuturism, comedy, experimental cinema, community, grief, art, and the search for belonging.
The audience ultimately determines the 2026 Best Nuvee, whose filmmaker receives the Nukhu Foundation's $3,000 Development-to-Distribution Grant and a handcrafted Nukhu ball toward their next project.
